Solid Phase Micro Extraction - (SPME)
A non-exhaustive sampling technique invented by Dr. Pawliszyn. Sampling involves a fiber coated with a sorbent phase either placed in the sample headspace or into the sample matrix of a sealed vessel. The analytes are extracted onto the coated SPME fiber and injected into an injection port of an analysis system such as a GC/MS. Compounds extracted can be both volatile and non-volatile depending on the fiber coating.
